There are many varieties of dwarf hamster, but all tend to be friendly and rarely nip or bite. Their amusing antics, small size, and ease of care make them wonderful companion animals.

Originally gray-brown with a dark stripe down their back; now comes in many shades of browns, tans, black, and/or white


2-3 years on average


Dwarf hamsters are energetic and curious. They love to run in a wheel or (when supervised) a hamster ball.


Eats commercial food, with limited grains, vegetables, fruits and timothy hay.


Keep in a solid cage or one with closely spaced bars. Add plenty of toys for playing and chewing.


Solitary animals, but may be kept in same sex groups if they are raised together.
